Background Information

Let’s face it, sometimes life can feel overwhelming and we can benefit from compassion and support. I believe that people with strong support systems have a better chance of moving toward whatever goals they choose. As an experienced counsellor, it is my intention to journey with you; neither pushing you ahead nor pulling you along, but walking beside you offering compassion, perspective, and tools to support you in your growth.

I have lived, worked and volunteered in Waterloo Region all my life – growing up in New Hamburg, Ontario, and now residing with my family in Waterloo. I have pursued post secondary education at both of our local universities: undergraduate studies in Arts at University of Waterloo and a graduate degree in Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University. I am a registered social worker who is passionate about being of service to others and giving back to my community. In addition to my professional practice at Southern Ontario Counselling Centre, I work at the University of Waterloo and have done contract work at Wilfrid Laurier University. I am also a volunteer with Hospice of Waterloo Region and have worked at Epilepsy Waterloo-Wellington as well as local elementary schools teaching emotional management tools to children.

My Practice

In my work as a counsellor, I have worked with children, teens and adults who are struggling with a variety of challenges. Some of these include anxiety, depression, grief, parent/child or other relationship conflicts, work and/or family stress, and gender or sexual orientation concerns. I am trained in and sensitive to a wide range of life situations including LGBTQ, new Canadians, those living with disabilities, and all age groups from young children to the elderly. I am committed to continuing my education and skills development, and am currently exploring Collaborative Problem Solving as well as other strategies to work through conflict. I am also pursuing ongoing accreditation as a children’s therapist.

An important first step in my sessions with you is to listen without judgment, in a respectful and compassionate manner. My approach is to work with you to help you discover what you need to succeed. The topics discussed and the pace of our sessions will be determined by your needs. I approach my work with integrity, respect, and responsible management of the information you share with me. I hope that you will feel safe and comfortable when working with me.

Office Information

I see my clients in a lovely old house in St. Agatha (about 10 minutes west of Waterloo). I am typically in my office Mondays and Thursdays, and I offer appointments during the day and in the evening as needed. You can reach me by calling our number, 519-746-2323, ext 307. Please leave whatever information you wish, including instructions for me when returning your call, as this is my personal, confidential voicemail. I will return your call as soon as I am able and we can decide, together, how best to proceed. My fee is $100.00 for a 50 minute session. Many E.A.P.’s and extended health care plans will pay for the services of someone with an M.S.W. I reserve some time to work with those individuals who cannot pay my full rate due to financial constraints.
