Director: Southern Ontario Counselling Centre
Background Information
My first degree has a focus on English Literature. My love of language
and literature influences my work as a therapist. My graduate degree was
earned in clinical social work in 1988 from Wilfrid Laurier University,
in Waterloo, Ontario.
I am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
With many years of experience in the field of child welfare, I have both
theoretical and practical training in child protection, family intervention,
foster care, and adoption. I am an accredited EMDR practitioner, certified to practice hypnosis, and have
post graduate training in the field of post traumatic stress.
My Practice
I began my private practice in 1988 at Southern Ontario Counselling Centre.
Over the past 20 years I have enjoyed working with individuals, couples
and groups.
I am very conscious of the importance of the health of the relationship
between client and therapist. The emotional safety and trust which develops
is essential to a productive healing process.
As I am living in Waterloo Region and am committed to this location as
a home for myself and my family, I provide a commitment to my local
practice.
Much of my practice is based on a transactional analysis
model (see terms). This supports the development of a strong and healthy
‘adult’ who can function in both normal and stressful situations.
This involves developing or enhancing problem solving, thinking and coping
skills for the here and now as well as exploring past traumas, messages,
beliefs and relationships. Learning to regulate emotions is an essential
component of this work. I am an accredited Hypnotherapist, and advanced level EMDR practitioner.
I also provide consultation support to small business owners to improve communication skills and business practices.
I have experience working with people experiencing or coping with:
- anxiety
- career concerns
- childhood trauma
- conflict communication issues
- gender issues
- grief depression
- marital/relationship
- parenting adjustments/difficulties
- post-traumatic stress (EMDR accreditation)
- sexual abuse issues
- teacher stress
- work stress
Office Information
My fee is $100.00 for a 50 minute session, $150.00 for an 80 minute
session and $170.00 for couples counselling. Many E.A.P.’s and extended health care plans will pay for
the services of someone with an M.S.W. I reserve some time to work with
those individuals who cannot pay my full rate due to financial constraints.
